TREATMENT OF THE WOUNDED
1 Cor 12:14, For in fact the body is not one member but many. 15 If the foot should
say, "Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body," is it therefore not of the
body? 16 And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I am not of the
body," is it therefore not of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would
be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? 18 But now God has
set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. 19 And if they were all
one member, where would the body be? 20 But now indeed there are many members, yet one
body. 21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; nor again
the head to the feet, "I have no need of you." 22 No, much rather, those members
of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. 23 And those members of the body which
we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable
parts have greater modesty, 24 but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed
the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, 25 that there should be
no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. 26
And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored,
all the members rejoice with it. 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members
individually.
What is your response when a fellow Christian is honored? How do you respond when
someone is suffering? We are called to rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those
who weep (Romans 12:15). Too often, unfortunately, we are jealous of those who rejoice and
apathetic toward those who weep. Believers are in the world together--there is no such
thing as private or individualistic Christianity. We shouldn't stop with enjoying only our
own relationship with God; we need to get involved in the lives of others.
BROTHERS TO THE RESCUE
Two little boys came bursting into the house, shouting to their mother that the
youngest brother had fallen into the lake. "We tried giving him artificial
respiration," one of them gulped, "But he kept getting up and running
away."
NOT PARTICULAR
A man filling out a job application in a factory was greatly perplexed at one question:
"Person to notify in case of accident?"
His decision: "Anybody in sight."
Luke 10:25, And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying,
"Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" 26 He said to him,
"What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?" 27 So he answered and
said, "'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul,
with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and 'your neighbor as yourself.'" 28
And He said to him, "You have answered rightly; do this and you will live." 29
But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" 30
Then Jesus answered and said: "A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and
fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving
him half dead. 31 "Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he
saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 "Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at
the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. 33 "But a certain
Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. 34
"So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him
on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 "On the next day,
when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him,
'Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.' 36
"So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the
thieves?" 37 And he said, "He who showed mercy on him." Then Jesus said to
him, "Go and do likewise."
Gal 5:25, If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not
become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. 6:1 Brethren, if a man is
overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of
gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. 2 Bear one another's burdens,
and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3 For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he
is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 But let each one examine his own work, and then he will
have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5 For each one shall bear his own
load.
