VISION
PRO 29:18, Where there is no vision, the people
perish:...(KJV)
In the last century, Lord Kelvin, a physicist and president of Britain's prestigious
Royal Society, stated that "radio has no future". He also contended that
"heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible" and that "X-rays will
prove to be a hoax." About the same time, a British parliamentary committee dismissed
Thomas Edison's incandescent lamp as "unworthy of attention of practical or
scientific men".
In 1989 the director of the United States Patent Office urged President William
McKinley to close down the office because "everything that can be invented has been
invented."
WALK BY FAITH - NOT BY SIGHT
FAITH IS REAL VISION
2CO 5:6-8, Therefore, being always of good courage, and
knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord-- for we walk by
faith, not by sight--we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from
the body and to be at home with the Lord.
HEB 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the
conviction of things not seen.
2CO 5:9, Therefore also we have as our ambition, whether at
home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.
2CO 5:14-15, For the love of Christ controls us, having
concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; and He died for all, that they
who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on
their behalf.
MAT 6:31-33, Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall
we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? {32}
(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that
ye have need of all these things. {33} But seek ye first the
kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
2CO 5:16-20, Therefore from now on we recognize no man
according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now
we know Him thus no longer. Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the
old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all these things are from God,
who reconciled us to Himself through Christ, and gave us the ministry of reconciliation,
namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their
trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore,
we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were entreating through us; we beg you on
behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
HEB 11:8-10, By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by
going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not
knowing where he was going. By faith he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a
foreign land, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise;
for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
Sin results from our attempts to satisify our desires. Those desires are only temporary
and satisfying them requires no visioin. Working for the unseen future requires vision.
HEB 11:24-26, By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused
to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; choosing rather to endure ill-treatment with
the people of God, than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin; considering the reproach of
Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to the reward.
SEEING GOD'S WILL REMOVES FEAR
2KI 6:15-17, Now when the attendant of the man of God had
risen early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was circling the city.
And his servant said to him, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?" So he
answered, "Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with
them." Then Elisha prayed and said, "O LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may
see." And the LORD opened the servant's eyes, and he saw; and behold, the mountain
was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
JOEL 2:28, "And it will come about after this That I
will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your
old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions.
LAY UP TREASURES
MAT 6:19-20, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures
upon earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But lay up
for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where
thieves do not break in or steal;
HELPING OTHERS REQUIRES VISION -
JESUS HAD IT
PHI 2:5-7, Have this attitude in yourselves which was also
in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with
God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and
being made in the likeness of men.
DOESN'T TAKE WISDOM TO SEE VISIONS
MAT 11:25, At that time Jesus answered and said, "I
praise Thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that Thou didst hide these things from
the wise and intelligent and didst reveal them to babes.
JOH 16:13 "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He
will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but
whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.
THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL HELP US SEE
GOD'S WILL
1CO 2:6-10, Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are
mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing
away; {7} but we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden
wisdom, which God predestined before the ages to our glory; {8}
the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood
it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory; {9} but
just as it is written, "Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And
which have not entered the heart of man, All that God has prepared for those who love
Him." {10} For to us God revealed them through the Spirit;
for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.
1CO 2:14, But a natural man does not accept the things of
the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because
they are spiritually appraised.
A VISION, THAT'S WHAT I
NEED
- I need a truer vision, Lord.
- A vision filled with Thee
- To see the needy world again
- With eyes willing to see.
- A world where people are hurting
- And hungry every day,
- A world that's ready and waiting
- To hear what You would say.
- I need a wider vision, Lord,
- A vision filled with Thee.
- To see that lonely woman
- Down the street from me.
- The teenager who's all mixed up,
- The child who's been abused,
- The day-to-day cares in my neighborhood.
- Lord, I want to be used.
- Give me a new vision, Lord.
- A vision filled with Thee,
- To see the world and my neighborhood
- As Your eyes would see.
- Help me use my gifts, dear Lord,
- In ways that glorify You,
- To act with loving-kindness
- Toward those with a different view.
- A truer, wider, new vision, Lord.
- That's what I need
- To carry out Your commands
- In word and thought and deed. - (Dimension, Winter
1986)
