FAITH - THE MISSING
INGREDIENT
Heb 11:1, Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not
seen. 2 For by it the men of old gained approval. 6 And without faith it is impossible to
please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of
those who seek Him.
LACK OF KNOWLEDGE
Heb 11:8, By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which
he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9
By faith he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, dwelling in
tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise; 10 for he was looking for
the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
LACK OF ABILITY
Heb 11:11, By faith even Sarah herself received ability to conceive, even beyond the
proper time of life, since she considered Him faithful who had promised; 12 therefore,
also, there was born of one man, and him as good as dead at that, as many descendants AS
THE STARS OF HEAVEN IN NUMBER, AND INNUMERABLE AS THE SAND WHICH IS BY THE SEASHORE. 13
All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having
welcomed them from a distance, and having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on
the earth. 14 For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country
of their own.
WALKING BY FAITH IS ADMITTING WE
ARE LOOKING FOR MORE THAN WE HAVE THE ABILITY TO PRODUCE
Heb 11:15, And indeed if they had been thinking of that country from which they went
out, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 But as it is, they desire a better
country, that is a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for
He has prepared a city for them.
LACK OF FEELING
Heb 11:17, By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac; and he who had
received the promises was offering up his only begotten son; 18 it was he to whom it was
said, "IN ISAAC YOUR DESCENDANTS SHALL BE CALLED." 19 He considered that God is
able to raise men even from the dead; from which he also received him back as a type.
LACK OF STRENGTH
1 John 5:4, For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory
that has overcome the world-- our faith. 5 And who is the one who overcomes the world, but
he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
LACK OF UNDERSTANDING
2 Cor 5:7, for we walk by faith, not by sight--
LACK OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
Rom 3:28, For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the
Law.
Gal 3:22, But the Scripture has shut up all men under sin, that the promise by faith
in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
Phil 3:7, But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for
the sake of Christ. 8 More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the
surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all
things, and count them but rubbish in order that I may gain Christ, 9 and may be found in
Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through
faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith,
LACK OF OBEDIENCE
Rom 4:14, For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the
promise made of none effect: 15 Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there
is no transgression. 16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end
the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to
that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, 17 (As it is
written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even
God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations,
according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. 19 And being not weak in faith,
he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither
yet the deadness of Sarah's womb: 20 He staggered not at the promise of God through
unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21 And being fully persuaded that,
what he had promised, he was able also to perform. 22 And therefore it was imputed to him
for righteousness.
