MEDITATE
Phil 4:6-8, Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with
thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which
surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things
are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of
good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on
these things.
Pro 23:7, As he thinketh in his heart, so is he.
Imagine never being "anxious about anything"! It seems like an
impossibility--we all have worries on the job, in our homes, at school. But Paul's advice
is to turn our worries into prayers. Do you want to worry less? Then pray more! Whenever
you start to worry, stop and pray.
God's peace is different from the world's peace. True peace is not found in positive
thinking, in absence of conflict, or in good feelings. It comes from knowing that God is
in control. Our citizenship in Christ's kingdom is sure, our destiny is set, and we can
have victory over sin. Let God's peace guard your heart against anxiety.
What we put into our minds determines what comes out in our words and actions. Paul
tells us to program our minds with thoughts that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely,
admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. Do you have problems with impure thoughts and
daydreams? Examine what you are putting into your mind through television, books,
conversations, movies, and magazines. Replace harmful input with wholesome material. Above
all, read God's Word and pray. Ask God to help you focus your mind on what is good and
pure. It takes practice, but it can be done.
Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is the probable reason why so few engage
in it. - Henry Ford
TRUE
John 6:31-33, "Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, 'He
gave them bread from heaven to eat.'" 32 Then Jesus said to them, "Most
assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives
you the true bread from heaven. 33 "For the bread of God is He who comes down from
heaven and gives life to the world."
John 1:17, For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus
Christ.
John 14:6, Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one
comes to the Father except through Me.
Eph 6:14, Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the
breastplate of righteousness,
NOBLE OR HONORABLE OR REVERENT
Dignity does not consist of possessing honors, but in deserving them.
- Aristotle
Luke 8:15, "But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard
the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.
1 Cor 1:26, For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the
flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.
James 2:6, But you have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you and drag
you into the courts? 7 Do they not blaspheme that noble name by which you are called?
Titus 2:1, But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: 2
that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience;
1 Cor 12:23, And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on
these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, 24 but
our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor
to that part which lacks it, 25 that there should be no schism in the body, but that the
members should have the same care for one another.
JUST
Matthew 12:7, "But if you had known what this means, 'I desire mercy and not
sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the guiltless.
John 7:24, "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous
judgment."
PURE
Matthew 5:8, Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.
Mark 7:17, When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him
concerning the parable. Mark 7:18 So He said to them, "Are you thus without
understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot
defile him, 19 "because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is
eliminated, thus purifying all foods?" 20 And He said, "What comes out of a man,
that defiles a man. 21 "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil
thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 "thefts, covetousness, wickedness,
deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. 23 "All these evil
things come from within and defile a man."
1 Tim 1:5, Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good
conscience, and from sincere faith,
2 Tim 2:20, But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but
also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21 Therefore if anyone
cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for
the Master, prepared for every good work. 22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue
righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
LOVELY (FROM PLEASING; AGREEABLE)
Psalm 33:1, Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is
beautiful.
Psalm 147:1, Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is
pleasant, and praise is beautiful.
Isaiah 52:7, How beautiful upon the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good
news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims
salvation, Who says to Zion, "Your God reigns!"
GOOD REPORT
Prov 3:3, Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them
on the tablet of your heart, 4 And so find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and
man. 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In
all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
1 Cor 10:23, All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things
are lawful for me, but not all things edify. 24 Let no one seek his own, but each one the
other's well-being.
VIRTUE OR EXCELLENCE
2 Cor 4:7, But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the
power may be of God and not of us.
PRAISEWORTHY
Eph 5:18, And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with
the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing
and making melody in your heart to the Lord,
Hebrews 2:9, But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the
suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste
death for everyone. 10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are
all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect
through sufferings. 11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are
all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12 saying: "I
will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to
You." 13 And again: "I will put My trust in Him." And again: "Here am
I and the children whom God has given Me." 14 Inasmuch then as the children have
partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He
might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who
through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
