Why bad things happen to Good people

Or If I were in Charge

The answers to many questions depend on our point of view. When we are self-centered, we may ask or think the following:

When we are not the one in charge, we often get a warped view of what being in charge really means.

Really being in charge means accepting responsibility for more things and people. That means:

1 Cor 12:18-27, But God made our bodies with many parts, and he has put each part just where he wants it. {19} What a strange thing a body would be if it had only one part! {20} Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. {21} The eye can never say to the hand, "I don’t need you." The head can’t say to the feet, "I don’t need you." {22} In fact, some of the parts that seem weakest and least important are really the most necessary. {23} And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect from the eyes of others those parts that should not be seen, {24} while other parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together in such a way that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. {25} This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other equally. {26} If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad. {27} Now all of you together are Christ’s body, and each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it.

Self-centered One limits his highs and lows.

When others gain it is often viewed as something that hurts us and we are low. It doesn’t make us feel too bad, it just keeps us from joining in their celebration.

When others suffer loss we rejoice in a measure that it is not us and we glory in their loss. This doesn’t really make us feel good, it just keeps us from feeling bad.

Taking Ownership

Those who are owners, and take responsibility, work harder than any who work for them.

Servant or Son?

Gal 4:3-10, And that’s the way it was with us before Christ came. We were slaves to the spiritual powers of this world. {4} But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. {5} God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. {6} And because you Gentiles have become his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, and now you can call God your dear Father. {7} Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, everything he has belongs to you. {8} Before you Gentiles knew God, you were slaves to so-called gods that do not even exist. {9} And now that you have found God (or should I say, now that God has found you), why do you want to go back again and become slaves once more to the weak and useless spiritual powers of this world? {10} You are trying to find favor with God by what you do or don’t do on certain days or months or seasons or years.

The Slave

The Son

Which side are we on?
