FISHERMEN
Mark 1:16-18, And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his
brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then Jesus said to them,
"Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men." They immediately left
their nets and followed Him.
Kingdom of Heaven is Like a
Fishing Net
Matthew 13:47-50, "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast
into the sea and gathered some of every kind, "which, when it was full, they drew to
shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away.
"So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked
from among the just, "and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing
and gnashing of teeth."
Church includes both good and bad.
God will do the separation. If we separate now, we sin.
James 2:8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, "You
shall love your neighbor as yourself," you do well; 9 but if you show partiality, you
commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever shall keep the
whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.
Buy the field - not just the
treasure
Matthew 13:44 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field,
which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys
that field.
Go to "all" the world
Mark 16:15 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to
every creature. 16 "He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does
not believe will be condemned.
Most fishermen:
- Fish in favorate spot
- Fish at favorate time
- Fish for only some types
- use a line instead of a net
2 Tim 4:1 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge
the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in
season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their
own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4
and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
Fish at the command of Jesus
John 21:3 Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him,
"We are going with you also." They went out and immediately got into the boat,
and that night they caught nothing. 4 But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on
the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5 Then Jesus said to them,
"Children, have you any food?" They answered Him, "No." 6 And He said
to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some."
So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish. 7
Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" Now
when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had
removed it), and plunged into the sea. 8 But the other disciples came in the little boat
(for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with
fish. 9 Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish
laid on it, and bread. 10 Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish which you have
just caught." 11 Simon Peter went up and dragged the net to land, full of large fish,
one hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not broken.
John 21:15 So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon,
son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You
know that I love You." He said to him, "Feed My lambs."
John 21:18-22, "Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded
yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your
hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish." This He spoke,
signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to
him, "Follow Me." Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved
following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, "Lord, who is
the one who betrays You?" Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, "But Lord, what
about this man?" Jesus said to him, "If I will that he remain till I come, what
is that to you? You follow Me."
