STILL IN THE FIRE
DAN 3:24-26, "Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astounded and stood up in
haste; he responded and said to his high officials, "Was it not three men we cast
bound into the midst of the fire?" They answered and said to the king,
"Certainly, O king." He answered and said, "Look! I see four men loosed
{and} walking about in the midst of the fire without harm, and the appearance of the
fourth is like a son of the gods!" Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the door of the
furnace of blazing fire; he responded and said, "Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego,
come out, you servants of the Most High God, and come here!" Then Shadrach, Meshach
and Abed-nego came out of the midst of the fire."
GOD WILL BE THERE
ISA 43:2, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And
through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will
not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you."
ISA 46:4, "Even to your old age, I shall be the same, And even to your
graying years I shall bear you! I have done it, and I shall carry you; And I shall bear
you, and I shall deliver you."
PSA 50:15, "And call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you,
and you will honor Me."
STEPHEN SAW JESUS
ACT 7:54, "Now when they heard this, they were cut to the quick, and they
began gnashing their teeth at him. 55 But being full of the Holy Spirit, he gazed
intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of
God; 56 and he said, "Behold, I see the heavens opened up and the Son of Man
standing at the right hand of God." 57 But they cried out with a loud voice,
and covered their ears, and they rushed upon him with one impulse. 58 And when they
had driven him out of the city, they began stoning him, and the witnesses laid aside their
robes at the feet of a young man named Saul. 59 And they went on stoning Stephen as
he called upon the Lord and said, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!" 60 And
falling on his knees, he cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin
against them!" And having said this, he fell asleep."
HOLY SPIRIT WILL BE THERE
JOH 14:16-17, "And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another
Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world
cannot receive, because it does not behold Him or know Him, but you know Him because He
abides with you, and will be in you."
CHRISTIANS WILL BE THERE
2CO 1:3-4, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our affliction so that we
may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we
ourselves are comforted by God."
Joe Bayly in his book, View From the Back of a Hearse says that one of the best
contributions we can make to a person going through intense suffering and loss is our
presence without words, not even verses of Scripture dumped into the ears of the grieving.
He said: Don't try to "prove" anything to a survivor. An arm about the shoulder,
a firm grip of the hand, a kiss: these are the proofs grief needs, not logical reasoning.
I was sitting, torn by grief. Someone came and talked to me of God's dealings, of why it
happened, of hope beyond the grave. He talked constantly, he said things I knew were true.
I was unmoved, except to wish he'd go away. He finally did. Another came and sat beside
me. He didn't talk. He didn't ask leading questions. He just sat beside me for an hour or
more, listened when I said something, answered briefly, prayed simply, left. I was moved.
I was comforted. I hated to see him go.
ROM 15:1-2, "Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those
without strength and not just please ourselves. Let each of us please his neighbor for his
good, to his edification."
When a former mayor of New York befriended a poor, dejected outcast of society, he was
reproved by the prosecuting attorney who said, "That tramp's no good. He's getting
only what he deserves." hearing this, the judge interrupted the harsh counselor by
asking with a smile, "Did you ever hear of the mother who visited Napoleon on behalf
of her condemned son? The emperor told her the young man had committed the same offense
twice, and justice demanded the death penalty. `But Sire,' she pleaded, `I don't ask for
justice--only for mercy.' `He doesn't deserve it,' said Napoleon. `No, he doesn't,' she
admitted, `but it would not be MERCY if he deserved it.' `You're right!' said the ruler
quickly, `I'll grant your request and show him mercy!'"
