New Animals

SCENE: Caleb and Bucky on stage.

Bucky: Who are you?
Caleb: My name is Caleb. I'm Phil's best friend. Who are you?
Bucky: I'm Bucky, the beaver. I live down at the river. Where did you get the name 'Caleb'?
Caleb: Phil says I'm trustworthy and loyal, so he named me after a person in the Bible named Caleb. He was loyal and brave in service to Moses and Joshua. I can see from the size of your teeth why you are called 'Bucky.'
Bucky: I chop down trees with my teeth to build dams in the river. What do you like to do?
Caleb: I spend all of the time I can just playing.
Bucky: Then why are you at church?
Caleb: Playing is only fun when you can really help people. Phil and Della go to church to learn how to serve God and help others. That sounds good to me, so I tag along too. Do you like to play?
Bucky: I don't have time for that. I'm busy all the time working.
Caleb: Then why are you here? Shouldn't you be working?
Bucky: I have noticed that most people who go to church do their work with purpose. Most who don't attend, just spin their wheels. They are busy, but they don't really seem to accomplish anything. I thought I might get some guidance here too.
Caleb: After church, I hope you will drop by, and play with me.
Bucky: OK, but now let's listen to the rest of the service.
